How to Thrive Right Now
Hi, my friends!
Right now, being a human—especially in the U.S.—feels…a little rough. Here are just a few of the texts I woke up to this week:
💬 “I haven’t made any revenue in three months. What’s going on?!”
💬 “OMG, the plane crashes. Are we going to be okay?”
💬 “Say goodbye to avocado toast.”
💬 “Because our foundation supports LGBTQ youth, we’re in danger of losing our grant.”
The energy around us is a little rough right now and it has been since the beginning of the pandemic (really, long before that too).
In all of this, we’re supposed to get up and go to work each day, try to honor our purpose, take care of our families—how the heck are we supposed to do all that?
In the wise words of AOC, “Do not commit to defeat in advance.”
What committing to defeat looks like:
🚫 “We can’t make meaningful change, so what’s the point of trying?”
🚫 “Who cares about feeling good at work when the world is ending?”
🚫 “I can’t talk about making more money right now, read the room.”
🚫 “I’m too sad and frozen to take any action.”
Now, I’m not saying don’t feel your feelings. Feel them deeply. But we can’t live only in the pain. We have to use it to refine our vision forward, then take daily action toward a better way of being.
Here’s what I’ve been working through to stay focused and committed:
✨ Anchor In Your Purpose
When you know what you’re here to contribute and for whom, you have a reason to get out of bed. My purpose? Helping women and other historically excluded people build purposeful, profitable careers the joyful way. Because when we love what we do and make good money, we have more power to invest in the people and causes we care about.
✨ Support Your Nervous System
Your nervous system’s job is to react to threats and then help your body recover. But in today’s world—news cycles, financial stress, career uncertainty—our nervous systems often stay in a state of dysregulation. When that happens, we freeze, we spiral, and we stop taking meaningful action. Learning how to regulate and reset is crucial for moving forward without burning out. See my email from last week on a tool to help you do that.
✨ Get Your Mind Right
Mindset follows the nervous system. If your body is in survival mode, your thoughts will be too. But once you regulate, you can challenge the beliefs that keep you stuck. If you’re thinking, “There’s no point in changing jobs or building my dream business now—the world is ending,” ask yourself: Is that really true? What’s a more empowering way to see this moment?
✨ Surround Yourself With Community
Now more than ever, we need each other. Who are your people? Where are your safe spaces? If you’ve been feeling isolated, this is your reminder to reconnect. Community is how we move through the hard stuff and into the good stuff.
✨ Take Breaks
Feeling like giving up (on the job search, the business, or your activism) is often a sign you need rest, not that you should quit. When you feel drained, pace yourself, replenish, and then get back up again.
✨ Do Things That Make You Feel Alive
This is arguably one of the most important points. Play, dance if you can, make art, laugh with your besties. We cannot be so mired in the work that we forget our own joy and humanity.
As Lana Del Rey says, “The road is long, we carry on—try to have fun.”
With you in this,
Amina

Career Forecast
For this month’s reading, I pulled Dare to Dream, The Warrior, and Withdraw. This spread is a powerful reminder that no dream is too big—if it’s within you, it’s meant for you. Even if your dreams feel far away or you’re unsure of the “how,” this spread invites you to pursue them anyway.
The Warrior urges us to tap into our inner fire and strength as we move toward our goals. This card is about action, resilience, and dismantling toxic energies and systems. It’s the opposite of complacency, asking: Where do you need to take a stand more consciously?
Interestingly, The Warrior is paired with Withdraw, a card that symbolizes nature, retreat, and reflection. This suggests that before charging ahead, we must turn inward, gather our strength, and prepare for what lies in front of us.
The Message? Dream big, ready yourself, and then bring the thunder.
